Femme Sauvage Christine Blachère

Maevy, a free movement, has chosen to embody itself in a bold, free, unique and instinctive brand.

A DNA that gives way to a wild femininity that unfolds in charming ambassadors selected for their talents and their often atypical trajectory.

Encounters with these modern-day amazons.

Episode 3: Christine Blachère

Entrepreneur Christine Blachère, who manages Blachère Illuminations, also heads the eponymous foundation. In addition to an art center, the space hosts various exhibitions, offers artist residencies, and features a boutique that, in keeping with the foundation's mission, showcases the creations of African artisans and designers through a fair trade lens. A busy woman, anything but wild—a concept she understands in its most primal sense.

What does it mean to be a wild woman today?

Savagery is rare in our societies; it can occur in extreme situations related to survival, stemming from innate instincts, in a rather primitive context. The term "savage" evokes numerous images, often warlike, which are fantasized and chimerical.

The wild woman and fashion, a paradox?

Fashion, in this light, seems to me to be antithetical to savagery. It's no coincidence that we imagine the noble savage as practically naked! Fashion, by definition a construct, tames savagery. An example? Some tribes wear feathers, ornaments, and colors during ceremonies, in a concentration of symbols and beauty that might be associated with primitiveness but is anything but savage. As soon as there is reflection, there is culture, which excludes savagery. And every fashion stems from a culture. A leopard print might be pleasing but doesn't denote a wild woman!

Maevy develops the concept of free movement. Is that an inspiration?

Not feeling restricted when dressing. The Free Movement evokes the idea of feeling good. It's the response to a situation that takes into account my activities, the modes of transport used, the people accompanying me, etc.

With a decisive notion, one feels free to act.

Taking this context into account isn't necessarily a constraint. It's an opportunity to express oneself. Personally, I like to express reliability, meaning strength and confidence, through what I wear. Getting dressed is a pleasure. I pay attention to what I wear—clothes, shoes, bag, etc. It's one of my daily pleasures.
